For many in Montreal, the summer is all about festivals, parties, and more festivals! And for electronic music fans, there are no short supply of EDM festivals and parties throughout the summer. However, very few of them are free! That’s only one of the great things about Divers/Cité, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in style this year starting July 30th and running through August 5th. Over the years, Divers/Cité has grown so much in popularity that they can no longer hold their free outdoor DJ events in and around Berri in the Gay Village. That’s why this year they’ve decided to make the move to the Old Port of Montreal on the Jacques-Cartier pier (where Igloofest is held every year) from August 2nd to the 5th. Among the various free outdoor events that will be held there include the widely popular 10th edition of La Grande Danse which this year includes Spain’s Pablo Ceballos (for his second year in a row) and New York house legend David Morales. Hector Romero will also be performing at Divers/Cité for the Sunset Party. The complete event list for the 2012 edition of Divers/Cité will be announced soon.
As a world class arts and music festival that celebrates “diversity in a spirit of sharing, solidarity and openness with the world”, Divers/Cité features over 47 hours of free outdoor performances spread out across several venues in the village. The festival consists of a variety of outdoor and indoor events showcasing “modern dance, blues, jazz, pop, Latin, rock, world, funk, ambient, techno and electronic concerts, drag queen performances and an outdoor cinema.”
Over the years, some of the best DJs from around the world have performed at Divers/Cité, including: Infected Mushroom, Sied van Riel, Cosmic Gate, Marcel Woods, Bobina, Mischa Daniels, Second Sun, Ulrich Van Bell, Peter Rauhofer, Ana Paula, Isaac Escalante, Magic Solutions, Danny Verde & Anna Buckley, Abel Ramos, Miswhite, Freemasons, David Penn, Pablo Ceballos, and Offer Nissim.
