About the Festival

For those who consider themselves avant-garde lovers of underground music, art and culture, there’s no better place to experience it all than MUTEK Montreal. Founded in 2000 in Montreal, MUTEK is an international non-for-profit international festival that promotes the latest innovations in electronic music and digital art. While the festival also takes place in Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Spain, the central platform for MUTEK is a five-day annual event in Montreal during late May and early June.  Thousands of spectators and more than 100 artists, DJs, panelists, and industry professionals participate in the festival every year. Since 2000, some of the most prestigious names in electronic music have performed at MUTEK alongside many up and coming names in the scene. In addition to providing a world class electronic music and digital art experience, MUTEK is also committed to promoting Canadian artists. In addition to DJ events and digital art shows, MUTEK also features workshops, panels, presentations, artist interviews, and demonstrations which are all free to the public.

MUTEK consists of numerous outdoor and indoor events, many of which are free. In recent years, MUTEK has been split into 5 different series/events:

Dedicated to presenting Canada’s emerging talent, the EXPÉRIENCE series kick starts each evening of programming with a quintessentially Montréalais tradition: the 5 à 7! Program presented outdoors and free of charge.

A/VISIONS series

The A\VISIONS program features artists who explore the essential relationship between image and sound. These are indoor sit-down events, and seating is first come first serve.

One of the MUTEK’s signature series, the NOCTURNE program presents more beat-oriented, late-night showcases featuring high-quality artists from around the globe.

PIKNIC series

MUTEK’s collaboration with the Piknic Électronik comprises of two outdoor daytime events, each with its own distinctive flavour, presented at one of Montreal’s prime outdoor locations, Jean-Drapeau Park.

MUTEK’s daytime professional section offers workshops, panels, presentations, intimate artist interviews, demonstrations and more, all free to the public.

For paid events, tickets can be purchased at the MUTEK box office, at several stores in downtown Montreal, and online. Ticket packages and passes are also available online through their designated ticketing website.
